UPDATE:

So I found a few awesome new artists online, and while browsing their websites I found MORE of the images from this particular deviant's gallery. So back I go to do some reporting because at this point it's personal. Well, not really personal as I don't actually know this person, nor have I ever interacted with them - art theft is one thing, whatever, but when you are passing yourself off as an ART STUDENT and then MAKING MONEY selling prints of art that isn't yours....yeah. That bothers me.

So I report them again, blah blah blah, promptly forget about it, and remember today.

I go back today, and their page is still up. Their gallery is severely decimated (I'm guessing that some of my older reports have actually been taken seriously now) but there is still a remarkable inconsistency in their gallery. I suppose I'll have to wait for my next web art trawl to find the rest of the pics.

Oh, and I'm sorry I didn't respond to your requests for the identity of the person...I honestly don't think that this person is even worth the attention.

I should have screencapped the hell outta that crap though *slaps forehead*

Okay so a while ago I was browsing DA and I found an artist whose art was awesome. Upon closer inspection of his/her gallery I found that pretty much all of the art was actually ripped and then badly photoshopped over, you know, to give normal people smudged-out "elf" ears, changing hair color with the hue/saturation slider, cropping out artist's signatures, that sort of thing. I recognized maybe 60% of the artist's gallery as being Korean and Japanese artists. What was even more hilarious was that he/she stole from such a variety of artists that his/her style changed dramatically in every pic.

EVEN MORE HILARIOUS: Selling prints of the so-called "original" work! Pageviews upon watchers upon pageviews! Adoration! Praise!

So I reported him/her. Took me about half an hour to track down all of the websites I recognized the art as being from, even longer to find the actual pics - reported politely, letting the evidence speak for itself.

A few days later, I revisited the artist and saw the message that said "This user has been suspended and will return to DA soon" -- I thought "OK, they're suspending this person while they check out their gallery. DA Helpdesk, you have never failed me yet!"

I checked back today, a few weeks later. Their gallery is still up. Prints are still being sold. And they are getting job offers on their front page because they are so goddamned awesome. As far as I can tell, maybe two of the many pics I reported are gone...the ones which were posted without the photoshop-smudged ears. (And seriously, that is ALL the artist did in most cased. Paint a black blob over a nose and classify it as "furry". That sort of thing)

I'd call them out, but of course, that would get me banned.

It's sad. I can't really sing praises to the help desk.

I've been harassed many times by an user who keeps creating new accounts, but since he harassed me via notes, not comments, the help desk told that since I really didn't have any proof, they couldn't do anything about it. I have the guy blocked, but I fear he will keep on making more accounts.

<_< you know, not too long ago i saw somebody posting links to an art theif's page on an image board somewhere. a few hours later the theif's page was attacked by hoards of rabid image reporters and their gallery is basically gone now. >_> not that i'm suggesting anything :ninjaeat:

the only thing good about it i guess is that if they do get a job they'll be expected to create awesome shit and all they'll be able to do is get someone else's awesome work and deface it, eventually they'll be found out.
also, maybe a couple years down the road they'll realize they're nothing but a fraud and have a mental breakdown.

here's hopin for the best. :D
