TUTV - Supplement 1 by minimonster777 TUTV - Supplement 1 by minimonster777
Well, it's not a "tutorial" but there were people asking about color theory, so I thought that I'd offer what I know on the subject :)

Enjoy.

The other tutorials are here if you're interested.

one of the best tutorials i have ever seen. i have been trying hard to color and this definately helps because my coloring has mainly just been the flat stuff...and i haven't been able to make something grab a person's eyes...this will definately help me thankyou!

I have been working as a web designer for 7 years now, without any backgrounds on colouring. It's nice to see things I do by intuition confirmed by your impressive tutorial. Thanks for all the background info and all the effort you put into this. :bow:

That was a good tutorial.

Knew most of the other stuff but the part with the eye color/hair was great.
Definitely useful if I was doing chars with hair or without.

Possibly the best tutorial to be found on DA in my opinion. I think color theory is something most artists should know, and this can helpful for artists of any level of experience I think. You did an excellent job going through things clearly and making sure to explain thoroughly. Great work! *applauds*

This is by far the best color tutorial I have ever seen. I've read up so much on color theories and schemes but it never really stuck with me. I love it that you included so many examples of different schemes - you can really tell the difference in effect when you change stuff around just a little bit and switch color partners.

Just wonderful :giggle:

Color theory is awesome. It's one of the most interesting parts of art, in my opinion. And once upon a time, I had written notes like this that took up half a sketchbook. It was cool to read about it myself.

GREAT!!, faved it. But, for when you were explaining what colour represents what, "white" was blue. don't know if this is clear, lol, maybe you should check it out. What I mean is this:
the format was: [actual colour filled in box] + {description}, right?
so:
[red-violet] {red-violet represents...}

[pink] {pink represents...}

[BLUE] {WHITE represents...} ...... while blue was already mentioned. But, instead of leaving a there a whitea box that won't show on the page, you can change the colour of the page/BG, or make a black outline and fill it with white, that way you have the colour's definition, ya know? I don't mean to sound in authority and telling you how to solve the problem, I'm just pointing it out :)
Sorry if this was mentioned alreaady, I didn't read all the comments posted.

Also, a question: with that horse-lady example, you talked about choosing and balancing the colours of the hair and horse half, but what about the skin colour? Doesn't it have to match up with the rest of the colours? Or is it more a neutral colour that goes with anything?

OOPS! I just noticed that! I had a white box with a black outline, but I must've accidentally selected it and changed its color! XD Oh well, easily remedied! Thanks eagle eyes XD

I didn't even get into skin colors....I was running out of room, lol....also, I don't know a lot about them....
